With lighter nights, chocolate eggs, and hot cross buns to look forward to, it can only mean one thing: spring is almost here! The winter days are behind us, and after months of endless drizzle, it’s time to welcome a little bit of warmth and optimism back into our lives. So, if you’re ready to make the most of the longer days, from spontaneous after-work meet-ups to actually enjoying being outside again, here are some things to do in spring that’ll have you fully embracing the season.

Got a spring birthday coming up? Or maybe you’re just looking to spread some joy now that the sun’s made an appearance? Either way, sending a spring card to someone you love is always a good idea:

And with all that out of the way… cue our ultimate spring bucket list, packed with fun things to do in spring for all ages!

  1. Plan a picnic

Up first we have the idea of heading out into the sunshine to enjoy a nice picnic. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just a simple blanket and some of your favourite snacks as a little celebration of the season. Once you’re all settled in a sunny spot, you can take some time to slow down and appreciate the world waking up around you.

  2. Dive into some crafts

Spring is all about colour and creativity, giving you the perfect excuse to have a go at some arts and crafts. Whether it’s something simple or an ambitious week-long project, here are some of our favourite spring crafts for kids and adults

  • Spring painting and sketching: Grab some watercolours, pencils, or pens and use the spring flowers in your garden as inspo.
  •  Flower garlands: Our guide on how to make a flower garland has everything you’ll need for this, including design tips, materials, and more!
  • Sewing projects: From fabric Easter eggs to spring-themed table runners, there are a variety of things to make.

  3. Have a big spring clean

While cleaning might not sound too exciting, a big clear-out can actually be really satisfying (and the perfect way to shake off any remaining winter blues). So, open your windows, pop on your favourite playlist, and get to work on decluttering, dusting, and making your home feel fresh.

If you’re not feeling up to tackling the whole house, start with that pile of washing you’ve been meaning to put away (and you might just find that it’ll spur you on to do the rest). Feel free to use our spring cleaning tips for a happy home to motivate you too.

  4. Head out on a day trip

Whether you venture somewhere coastal or green, longer days are basically an invitation to get outside and explore. Even a short trip can feel like a little adventure, giving you that change of scenery you’ve been craving and a chance to enjoy some fresh air.

If you’re feeling spontaneous, why not try something completely new? A local festival, a hidden garden, or a quirky museum can make the day feel memorable.

  5. Take a springtime hike

Sticking with the adventurous theme, heading out on a springtime hike is the perfect way to stretch your legs and enjoy the warmer weather. You could go all out and tackle a popular hiking route, or stay closer to home and explore a local nature spot.

  6. Bake some sweet treats

Baking can be an ideal indoor activity for when you’re hiding from the spring rain. If you’re a baking extraordinaire, how about a three-tiered sponge topped with seasonal fruits? Or if you’re just starting out, biscuits and cupcakes can be just as delicious. Once you’re all done, invite a friend over for a cuppa and dig in.

  7. Start a journal

Spring is all about fresh starts, and journaling can help you organise your thoughts and set some intentions for the rest of the year.

While it can feel a little daunting at first, there’s no need for things to be perfect. Just make your morning coffee, head outside (journal in hand), and get ready to spill your thoughts. Once you get into the swing of things, you might want to doodle, habit track, or use your journal to note down your favourite spring memories.

  8. Visit a farmer’s market

Don’t forget to add a trip to the local farmer’s market to your spring bucket list! You really can’t beat wandering through the stalls of homemade goodies while soaking up some sunshine. You could pick up the ingredients for a spring-inspired meal, treat yourself to some fresh pastries, and even grab a little gift for a loved one.

  9. Host a mini garden party

You don’t need a huge garden and fancy furniture to throw a springtime party. Just get the garden chairs out of the garage, drape some fairy lights from the trees, and then head out to stock up on snacks and drinks! Once you’re finished with the set-up, all that’s left to do is invite everyone over for a day of doing nothing but enjoying the sun.

  10. Make a spring-themed playlist

Last up, we have the idea of creating the ultimate spring playlist. Whether you’re into up-beat songs or relaxing tracks, anything goes as long as it makes you happy. Throw in some classics like Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles, then add some Harry Styles and Florence + The Machine to get you dancing (even a 5-minute kitchen disco can make things feel brighter).

Plan your perfect spring bucket list

And just like that, spring has officially sprung! Whether you fancy trying out a couple of the above ideas or you’re eager to tick off the whole list, now’s the perfect time to make the most of the season.
